Oh - I didn't see you there
We have a visitor. cool, cool-cool-cool-cool-cool. I suppose make yourself at home, take a look around, feel free to make comments, do you like tea?
So what is this blog all about?
Board Games. But you probably guessed that by now huh?
So to be a bit more specific, we're pretty into tabletop games & we're also pretty big nerds. We (well one of us at least) often spends heaps of time researching new games to add to our ever-growing collection - but many of our board-gaming friends aren't as interested in watching hours of TableTop play-throughs and Shut Up & Sit Down reviews..
We've had countless messages from friends asking what game they should by their board-game loving uncle, or asking what was that new game we introduced them to last games night which we kept playing until 11pm. So we thought, what if we took a no-nonsense approach to introducing our friends to games & put it online?
That's when Working Title was thought up. A blog where we can share the why behind our latest obsession, not just explanations of rules and analysis of mechanics (which we find super fun.. but our siblings really don't). It's also somewhere you can hop to when you think "I really want to find a great 2-player game/party game/lighthearted/deep game" and find a whole heap of suggestions based on the very criteria you're looking for.
We hope you have as much fun reading this blog as we did writing it, and more importantly - we hope you find your next board game favourite!
S & R
Our Latest Posts:
We wanted to make it as simple as possible to rate & recommend games to others. So as well as some context about a game & normally a few fun stories from our own gameplay - we also give a summary about a few key factors we've found so important when deciding whether a game is for us, our families or friends:
Number of players (and number that it thrives at)
Finding the player number is pretty easy, it's on the box. However, we've found that even if a game says it can play for 2/4/10+ people some games really don't work well at their min/max numbers. That's why we include it's thive number - the ideal number of players for the game to be it's best.
Complexity rating
We have a 0-5 rating of how complex we deem a game. As this can be super subjective, these are the factors which go into deciding our rating:
-
How difficult it is to understand (does it have lots of rules, complicated mechanics, etc)
-
The range of choices and/or actions (whilst having lots of choices on what to do can make games really fun, it can also make it much more complicated)
-
How easy it is to see your progress (Can you tell at a glance if you're winning/doing well, or does it feel you're running half blind until the final scoring at the end)
How long it takes to play (and learn)
Similarly to number of players, the game length is quite easy to find on the box - but we found it to be almost equally important to know how long it takes to learn how to play. There's nothing worse than cracking out a game at a games night and 45 mins in, you're still getting your head around the rules when you've only got an hour or so left to play all the games your friends brought too.
So how do you rate &
recommend games?

Our Game Collection
Now obviously we haven't gotten around to talking about our whole collection - but if you're interested in what we own this is the list! Feel free to comment below which you would like us to talk about next.
We originally wrote out this list, but it was getting ridiculously long and hard to keep updated. So here is our up-to-date list on BoardGameGeek
